About My Teaching

Voice Studio of Jordyn Day. Voice lessons in Seattle. Voice lessons online. Seattle vocal coach. Musical theatre lessons. Pop lessons. Rock lessons. Voice lessons for adults. Voice lessons for beginners.
I love teaching people how to sing! Singing (and it’s technique) is one of the greatest joys in my life and sharing that journey with different people every day is an even bigger joy. My own singing journey has been filled with ups and downs, uphill battles, downhill runs, giant victories and crushing losses. I want to share that journey with each student; whether I am part of journey for 1 lesson or 10 years worth of lessons, it is something I feel privileged to share with every individual.
I fell into teaching almost by necessity. It’s expensive to live in a big city as a freshly graduated college kid and many professors in college insisted I would be a great teacher...so, that’s what I did. The learning curve was steeper than I could have imagined. I learned a lot about myself in the first few years. What I knew, what I didn’t know, how to express that which can only be felt, how to explain how to ‘fix’ something that we have almost no control over...teaching made me a much better singer. And my students made, and continue to make, me a better person.
Over the years I have been told many things about myself as a teacher but my favorite is that I am ‘intense’. I like to think I am just serious about making you a better singer, but intense has a nice ring to it. What I really think people mean by ‘intense’ is that I won’t lie to you. I honestly compliment and critique. But, we will also laugh, cry and have meaningful conversations about singing and about life. Singing is hard and personal thing to share with someone and I want to honor that every day.
I want you to feel comfortable in the studio. It is a safe space to make mistakes, try new things and grow. Your lesson is about you. 30, 45 or 60 minutes completely tailored to your needs as a singer. Every lesson is different. Every day your voice will be different.
Consistency is one of the biggest goals I have for my students. When you open up your mouth to make a noise, I want you to know what to expect, or, what to do to improve where the voice is at that day. That starts with an understanding of the science behind the voice and a whole host of tools (and the occasional trick!) to help get you there. It’s a long journey. I still take voice lessons, and after 20 years, I still learn something each time. There is no finish line and I am thankful for that.
Happy singing,
Jordyn
